As a high school science teacher for 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with teens and fostering connections that go beyond the classroom. In addition to my teaching role, I served as a class advisor, club advisor, and National Honor Society advisor, as well as overseeing the Ecology and Astronomy Clubs. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career at Wyoming Area was the opportunity to facilitate a program called "Group." This initiative brought together 10 students and 2 teachers in a discussion circle, where students could open up, seek advice, and offer support to each other in a safe, non-judgmental space.
After retiring, I continued to stay connected with young people by volunteering with the Tunkhannock Rotary. As an Interact Member and Scholarship Committee member, I remained committed to supporting teens through leadership and scholarship opportunities, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Rotary’s work with local schools has allowed me to provide guidance and resources to students pursuing their goals.
Having spent so many years in education and community service, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the challenges today’s teens face. I believe that the Drop-In Center can be an invaluable resource, offering a place for connection, support, and personal growth. Adolescence is a pivotal time in a person’s life, full of questions about the world and their place in it. I’m passionate about helping teens navigate this journey, and I look forward to supporting them as they take the lead in shaping the direction of the center.
